Derek Hanebury, born in Ontario in 1954, lives in Port Alberni where he has created Blue Nun Press with Michele Birch-Conery. With his biography Ginger Goodwin: Beyond the Forbidden Plateau (Pulp Press, 1986), he examined the controversial life and mysterious 1918 death of labour leader Albert 'Ginger' Goodwin who was forced into hiding in Vancouver Island's Forbidden Plateau. (See also Susan Mayse). Hanebury's poetry collection Nocturnal Tonglen (Ekstasis, 2006) concerns a close relative who disappeared.
