In her 80th year, Ruth Howard of Vancouver self-published Crabby Crab (Trafford, 2004), a pleasing children's book, illustrated by Helen Downing Hunter, about a shore crab that gets trapped in the red plastic sand bucket of two children digging on the beach, taken home for show 'n' tell, then replaced in the ocean. Raised in Fredericton, Howard worked in fisheries research and later continued her appreciation of marine life from a cottage at Hopkins Landing.
