Born Edna Jaques in Collingwood, Ontario on January 17, 1891, she grew up in Moose Jaw where she married William Ernest Jamieson on November 30, 1921. They had one child. Prior to her marriage she had come to Vancouver and worked as a stenographer and as a journalist for the Vancouver Province. When her marriage ran into difficulty in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, she returned to the West Coast with her daughter, Joyce, and worked as a stenographer in Victoria. She lived there from 1929 to 1935. Inceasingly able to publish her poetry, she eventually left her daughter in Saskatchewan to become a fulltime writer. Nellie McClung helped her publish her first book, My Kitchen Window. She became one of Canada's bestselling poets. She published ten books of verse and died in Toronto on September 13, 1978.
