She received an M.F.A. in Creative Writing at U.B.C. where she was taught by Jake Zilber, George McWhirter, Robert Harlow and Jane Rule. She lived in Prince George for five years, and in Greater Vancouver. She has worked as a railway clerk and tree assessor in the north, as a postal worker, college instructor and securities broker. Vancouver! (Borealis Press, 2002) is her historical novel set in Vancouver from 1886 to 1914, in which Pauline Johnson and Emily Carr are main characters.
