Jim Kearney was born in 1922. He compiled Champions: A British Columbia Sports Album which recalls the forgotten greatness of Olympic hammer thrower Duncan Gillis, Stanley Cup champion Victoria Cougars, Olympic double-gold medallist Percy Williams, basketballer Norm Baker, cyclist Torchy Peden, the Asahi baseball team, weightlifter Doug Hepburn, Mighty Mouse Elaine Tanner and Penticton's Ted Bowsfield -- the only major leaguer from B.C. to have earned a baseball pension. Kearney was sports columnist for the Sun for 18 years before becoming manager of publications for Sport B.C. (See also Cleve Dheensaw, Jim Taylor.)
