Michael David Kwan collapsed onstage during the Victoria Writers' Festival in 2001 and died May 20, 2001. The playwright, author and translator was born in Beijing on March 6, 1934. In 2000 he won the Kiriyama Pacific Rim Prize for his memoir of family life entitled Things That Must Not Be Forgotten.
