Self-published poet and potter Des Loan was born in Ottawa in 1928. With a bachelor's degree from Carleton University, he moved to the Okanagan in 1955 where he taught high school for 32 years. Retired in 1985, he helped his wife Peggy establish their Okanagan Pottery Studio in Peachland, now operated by two of their five children, and he has converted an orchard into a vineyard. His poetry collection called halfpast allfours is dedicated to his wife of 51 years.
