E. Madge Mandy was a college professor from Kansas when she met a mining engineer aboard the Princess Louise "and it was instant love." The couple traipsed across much of northern B.C. in the 1930s, a period recalled by Mandy's privately published 1989 memoir, Our Trail Led Northwest. The author has lived on Mandy Street in Burnaby since 1943. Madge Lake and Madge Mountain are named in her honour.
