Seymour Mayne, born in Montreal in 1944, was one of four founders of Very Stone House Press in Vancouver while pursuing doctoral studies at UBC. With Pat Lane he has co-edited The Collected Poems of Red Lane. He moved to Ottawa in 1973 to teach English and has since written, edited and translated more than 40 books and monographs. His poetry in the Jewish-Canadian tradition of Irving Layton, Leonard Cohen and A.M. Klein includes The Song of Moses (The Menard Press/Concertina, 1995), Carbon Filter: Poems in Dedication (Mosaic Press, 1999) and Light Industry (Mosaic Press, 2000). His short fiction appeared in Argentina, in translation, as The Old Blue Couch: Canadian Stories and he co-authored Cinquefoil (Mosaic Press, 2003).
