Born in Victoria in 1960, Stephen McCallum is a storyboard artist, animator and director who has produced work for Hanna-Barbera, Walt Disney and PBS's NOVA. He first illustrated The Potter (1992) written by Jacolyn Caton. It was followed by Belle's Journey (Orca, 1993) written by Marilynn Reynolds and The New Land: A First Year on the Prairie (Orca, 1997). He lived in Vancouver, where he received an award for his film From Flores in 1990, and returned to live in Victoria. In 2012, he illustrated and published a 20th anniversary read-aloud edition of Belle's Journey for the iPad, narrated by Marilynn Reynolds, under the banner of his new publishing venture, Crow Cottage Publishing.
