Born in Calgary in 1961, Todd McFarlane reputedly wrote the bestselling comic book of all time when Marvel Comics released his new version of Spider-Man in 1990. The Spider-Man series marked McFarlane's debut as a writer but he was already widely acclaimed as an illustrator. He won the Comic Buyers Guide Fan Award for Favourite Artist in 1989. At the time he was living in Duncan, B.C.
