A former colleague of historian and judge F.W. Howay and B.A. McKelvie of the Vancouver Province, D.A. McGregor incorporated some of McKelvie's work, and the spadework of R.E. Gosnell, for They Gave Royal Assent: The Lieutenant-Governors of British Columbia (Mitchell Press, 1967). It documents events pertaining to Government House in Victoria and the lives of 25 representatives of the British monarchy in British Columbia, during a 118-year period, from Richard Blanshard in 1850 to Major-General George Randolph Pearkes who remained in office until 1967. "British Columbia is a child of the Oregon Treaty," he begins. A collection of McGregor's writings appeared posthumously in D.A. McGregor and His Writings (Mitchell Press, 1970). Donald Alexander McGregor (1879-1970) joined the Vancouver Province newspaper in 1910 and served as Associate editor and Chief Editorial Writer. He died in 1970.
