The teenage protagonist of Brendan McLeod's darkly comic novel The Conviction of Leonard McKinley (3-Day Books, 2007), winner of the 29th annual 3-day novel contest, ultimately contemplates self-castration as he becomes increasingly carried away with the complexities of contemplating virtue. Raised in Saskatchewan and Alberta, McLeod is a former SLAM poetry champion who tours with a spoken word and music group, The Fugitives. He lives in Vancouver.
