Alan D. McMillan of Port Moody was born in 1945. He taught anthropology at Douglas College and archaeology at SFU. Native Peoples and Cultures of Canada (1988) is his very broad overview of all Native peoples of Canada from prehistoric times to the present. It was revised and republished as First Peoples in Canada (2004), with the addition of an Indigenous author, Eldon Yellowhorn of the Peigan Reserve in Alberta. McMillan is also the author of Original Inhabitants of the Port Moody-Coquitlam Area, a pamphlet from the Port Moody Historical Society (1982) and co-author of Alberni Prehistory (1982) with Denis E. St. Claire. He later published Since the Time of the Transformers: The Ancient Heritage of the Nuu-chah-nulth, Ditidaht, and Makah (1999).
