Ottawa photographer John McQuarrie produced three previous titles in his Then & Now series prior to self-publising his coffee table book Vancouver Then & Now (Ottawa: Magic Light, 2001) with text by Chuck Davis. It combines archival photos with modern photos of the same places. The concept was pioneered in Vancouver by Roland Morgan.
