With her daughter Sacha K. Michaud, who was educated in Calgary, Margaret Michaud has co-authored Beautiful Smiles, Gentle Spirits: Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, A Misunderstood Problem (Detselig, 2003) for those who work in the social services community and the criminal justice system, as well as parents, educators and caregivers. The book examines how and why the individual born with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) "views the world through different glasses." Michaud is a counselor and consultant specializing in the area of harm reduction, addiction and multi-barrier women and children. She has worked in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver and lectured in several countries on Harm Reduction as it pertains to issues arising from poly-drug use, sex trade workers, HIV/AIDS and socio-economic deprivation. Her previous book was Dead End: Homeless Teenagers, A Multi-Service Approach, focusing on teenage prostitution.
