Born in the Japanese fishing village of Shikoku in 1899, A. Katsuyoshi Morita trained as a chef and came to Canada in 1920. He was interned in Greenwood. He recorded his memories in a 1988 Japanese book that was translated and published in 1989 as Powell Street Monogatari (Live Canada Publishing). The translator was Eric Sokugawa. the editor was Sakuya Nishimura. He lived in Vancouver.
