Jack Munro headed the largest union for Canada's $2.5 billion forest industry, the International Woodworkers of America, for 16 years. He was persuaded to co-write his memoir with Jane O'Hara, Union Jack (D&M, 1988), by Auto Workers president Bob White. Born in Lethbridge in 1931, the only son of Scottish immigrants, Munro was raised on a relief farm near Calgary and came to work in Nelson, B.C. as a mechanic in the early 1950s.
