Myles Murchison's horror-occult novel of the 1890s, The Deathless, covers four centuries and concludes with a race riot in Vancouver. It's the tale of a scientist and his lover who discover Ponce de Leon's legacy in Florida and follow the trail of everlasting life ('The Deathless') to Cuba, San Francisco and Vancouver, where the scientist is murdered. Murchison has written a 10-hour radio documentary on Native people which made him the first Canadian to win an Edward R. Murrow Award for outstanding documentary. Chiefly employed in advertising, he has also written screenplays and stageplays. Murchison was born in Cheltenham, England in 1942, came to Manitoba at age four and arrived in Courtenay to begin a radio career in 1962.
