Co-founder of Gut-Wrench, a Vancouver sketch comedy group that existed from 1998 to 2007, John Murphy also co-founded (r)evolution theatre with Jonathan Ryder. He has written an adaptation of Ben Jonson's Volpone, performed a one-man show called Maniac at the Nakai Comedy Arts Festival and performed his comic one-man play The Heretic (Talonbooks 2008) that features a plethora of voices. It's the story of a Roman Catholic man tormented by religious anxieties--so he decides to become an evangelical atheist named Jesus Murphy.
