One of the most bizarre self-published titles of the 1990s was Colleen Nelson's coil-bound parody Chexx (1993), distributed by Raincoast. The 43-year-old daughter of the mayor of Maple Ridge appeared throughout her illustrated book as a checkered-apron homemaker posing suggestively with cucumbers, carrots and a garden hose, etc., supposedly as her response to crude and disturbing publications.
