Jim Wolf's photographic history of New Westminster, The Royal City, was followed by Yi Fao: Speaking Through Memory: A History of New Westminster's Chinese Community 1858-1980, co-written with Patricia Owen, an anthropology museum curator at UBC with a master's degree in the arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas. Focussing on four key families of early settlers: Law, Lee, Quan and Shiu, the volume takes its name from the city's Chinese name, Yi Fao, meaning second port.
