Leah Pells is known for her participation in three Olympic Olympic Games: Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000, as well as six World Championships. She received a Silver Medal at the Pan Am Games Championships in 1999 and she was inducted into the Coquitlam Sports Hall of Fame in 2011. In her memoir Not About the Medal (Word Nerd) she writes about growing up as the daughter of an alcoholic mother rather than concentrating on her long career as a middle-distance runner. Pells is a teacher, motivational speaker, wife and mother who holds degrees in Psychology and Education, and is now completing her Masters in Counselling Psychology.
