In the 1920s and 1930s, A.E. Pickford headed the research division of the Cowichan Research Station on Vancouver Island, known as the Cowichan Lake Experimental Station for forestry research. He became the author of 1051-page work Prehistoric Cairns and Mounds in B.C. (Vancouver: 1947). He was also the co-author of a series of short books on Aboriginal peoples of British Columbia from the British Columbia Heritage Series in the 1960s. See A.F. Flucke entry.
