In 2016, after his handwritten manuscript riddled with spelling mistakes was mailed out out of prison by a fellow convicted sex offender, the serial killer Robert Pickton was able to have his 144-page memoir entitled Pickton 'e-published' via a retired California construction worker named Michael Chilldres who used the services of an American 'e-publisher' called Outskirts Press. Publication of Pickton's self-serving story occurred nearly a decade after he was convicted of six counts of murder in 2007, having told an undercover agent he had killed 49 women, mainly from Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, during an eleven-year killing spree that started in 1991. In his memoir loaded with Biblical references, the Port Coquitlam pig farmer claims innocence. At the time of publication Pickton was serving a life sentence in Kent Institution, in Agassiz, B.C. The name of Michael Chilldres appears on the paperback copies that have sold for $20 Cdn. via online distributor Amazon. Relatives of the victims are appalled and Canadian government officials will likely attempt to have sales of the memoir curtailed.
