Born in England in 1901, Prentice immigrated to Canada in 1911. He began translating Latin American poetry in 1965 and published Three Cuban Poets in 1967. His photographs illustrated Charles O. Porter's An Interview with Fidel Castro. With John M. Kirk, who completed his Ph.D thesis on Cuban independence leader José Marti while at UBC, he co-edited A Fist and the Letter: Revolutionary Poems of Latin America (Pulp Press, 1977).
