Andrea Raine speaks to social problems in her novel Turnstiles (Red Tuque 2014) through characters like: Martin Sourdough, a homeless person who has turned his back on materialism and the corporate world; Willis Hancocks Jr., a barrister, alcoholic philanderer and misogynist; and Evelyn (aka Yvonne), a prostitute.

Raine was born in Smithers, B.C. and grew up in Victoria where she earned an English Literature degree from the University of Victoria.
