Douglas Shadbolt was Director of the School of Architecture at the University of British Columbia. He later published Ron Thom: The Shaping of an Architect (Douglas & McIntyre, 1995). Thom designed the BC Electric tower and became influential in the architecture for West Coast houses. Shadbolt, himself an architect, taught at McGill University and the University of Oregon. He was the founding director of the schools of architecture at Nova Scotia Technical College and Carleton University in Ottawa.
