After graduating from high school, Allan Southern served with the Canadian Army for four years (7th Field Squadron, Royal Canadian Engineers). After that he went on the road as a professional musician playing the Hammond organ, from 1970 to 1973. In 1974 he started working as a Letter Carrier with Canada Post. He retired in 2004 and started writing as a hobby.
