Anne Swannell is a Victoria-based writer/illustrator and mosaicist who has completed three pieces of public art (two mosaics, one in Sooke and one in Victoria, and an installation for the Canadian Tulip Festival in Ottawa).

Swannell was born in London, England, (nee Anne Brown) on February 4, 1940. She attended school in North Wales and in Calgary, Alberta, and has a degree in Creative Writing from UVic (1989). For many years before that, she worked in the newspaper business as a copywriter and as a layout artist, and later wrote, illustrated, and marked courses for the Correspondence Branch (BC Dept of Education). She illustrates her own books. The Lost Kitten of Toledo was not made available in bookstores. She came to Canada in 1951 and arrived in British Columbia in 1959.
