Taslim Burkowicz first published Chocolate Cherry Chai (Roseway 2017) about a free-spririted Ind0-Canadian girl who sets off into the world, visiting and working in places like the Philippines and Japan. After encountering emotional turmoil, the protagonist finds comfort in an ancient chai-making ritual and discovering stories about her maternal ancestors. The book has been described as "a moving contribution to the growing body of fictional writings about migrants and racialized women across transnational borders."

Taslim Burkowicz's second novel, The Desirable Sister (Roseway 2019), concerns the importance of skin colour and the competition between women that that can result. Whereas Serena feels ostracized due to her dark skin; her lighter-skinned sister Gia is openly welcomed and celebrated everywhere "by love interests and even family members." Her story about "the bitter games of treachery women are forced to play" occurs in the partying culture of Goa, in Vancouver and during an African safari.

Burkowicz grew up in a Gujarati family in the Lower Mainland of B.C and earned a BA (political science and education) at Simon Fraser University before teaching in elementary schools in Japan for four years. She lives with her family in Surrey.
