Terry Milos published her first book, a memoir, "North of Familiar: A Woman's Story of Homesteading and Adventure in the Canadian Wilderness" about her back-to-the-land adventures begun in 1974. After her first few months eking out a living, she returned to the south to earn an education degree whereupon she accepted a job in the little northern town of Atlin. Publicity describes the story as, "coming to grips with life in the bush far away from the luxuries of the city."

Milos was raised in Florida and went to California to attend university. For nineteen years, she raised a family by teaching in a number of remote Canadian communities.
