As a UVic history professor, Margaret Whitehead edited and provided a lengthy introduction to They Call Me Father: Memoirs of Father Nicolas Coccola, a Corsican-born Oblate (Roman Catholic) missionary who worked in B.C. for 63 years. As well, following a volume on missionaries and Indians for Sound Heritage, she published The Cariboo Mission: A History of the Oblates in 1982.
