A graduate of the University of British Columbia's creative writing program, Elaine Woo is a poet/librettist and non-fiction writer whose first book of poetry champions the virtue of "smallness" in Cycling with the Dragon: (Gibsons, BC: Nightwood Editions, 2014).

Woo's art song collaboration with composer Daniel Marshall won a Boston Metro Opera Festival Prize in 2013. She is a contributor to the the anthology, V6A: Writing from Vancouver's Downtown Eastside which was a finalist for the City of Vancouver's Book Award in 2012.
