The first edition of Frederick H. Wooding's Lake, River and Sea-Run Fishes of Canada (Harbour, 1994) was The Angler's Book of Canadian Fishes (Collins, 1959). The second edition was The Book of Canadian Fishes (McGraw Hill-Ryerson, 1973). He is also the author of Canada's Atlantic Salmon (Department of Fisheries, 1954, 1956) and Wild Mammals of Canada (McGraw Hill-Ryerson, 1982). The latter was republished in French as Les Mammifers Sauvages du Canada (Marcel Broquet, 1983). Wooding was Director of Information and Educational Services of the federal Department of Fisheries (now Fisheries and Oceans) and served as Information Officer of the Fisheries Research Board of Canada. Born in Ontario, he retired to Saanichton where he is a member of the College of Fellows of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society.
