Cruising couple
The crow's larger brother, the raven (Corvus corax), is distinguished by a bigger bill, a low croaking voice (as opposed to a 'caw') and is often featured in First Nations legends as a trickster or transformer figure. Photographed in Rivers Inlet in 1913, the rare raven totem shown in Along the Inside Passage (Altitude, $39.95) is one of hundreds of excellent images among stories, pictures and facts gathered by Meredith Bain Woodward and Ron Woodward, with mini-bios on George Vancouver, Mungo Martin and Alexander Mackenzie, etc. The Woodwards join a rich tradition of cruising couples who have produced worthwhile books on the B.C. coast. 1-55153-218-2
