GIBSON, Valerie

Author Tags: Sex, Women

As the former wife of MP Gordon Gibson Jr., Valerie Gibson was well-connected to Vancouver's influential and wealthy elite, leading to her long stint as a columnist for editor Mac Perry in Vancouver magazine. Her column consisted of a series of catty letters, ostensibly written privately to a friend named Barbie, recounting her views of socialites. Some of her witticisms and observations were published in book format as You Can't Say That: Barbie Darling's Ultimate History of Gossip (Vancouver: Serious Publishing, 1994). Having had five husbands, Gibson moved to Toronto and published Cougar (Key Porter, 2001; 2005), an introduction to the phenomenon of older women using young men for sex. For the cover of the book, she posed Mrs. Robinson-like on a bed. Her book provides advice to single women--whatever their age.
