He is an avid backroad traveller who has published Island Adventures (Orca, 1989), a description of 35 trips to take between Sooke and Cape Scott on Vancouver Island, also More Island Aventures Volume 2 (Orca, 1993). His third title, Island Backroads (Orca, 1998), shares his knowledge of the best hiking, camping and paddling retreats on Vancouver Island. As well, he as edited several books for the the Vancouver Island Trails Information Society such as Hiking Trails III: Northern Vancouver Island including Strathcona Park, (2002) and Hiking Trails II: South Central Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands (2000).
