BURKE, Stanley

Born in Vancouver in 1923, he was a Vancouver journalist who became a high-profile foreign correspondent. Returning to Vancouver to live on a Granville Island floathouse, he wrote the text for several bestselling political spoofs about Canadian politics, Frog Fables and Swampsong, illustrated by Roy Peterson. Long before Meech Lake, he satirically illustrated that Canada is like a swamp inhabited by creatures who do not understand one another. [BCBW 1995]
