Donna Wilson (b. 1944) edited the proceedings of a conference on democratic socialism held in Vancouver in 1983 for Democratic Socialism: The Challenge of the Eighties and Beyond (New Star, 1985). The conference and the publication were supported by the Boag Foundation to further the rights of workers' education. Allan Boag was a Scottish immigrant to Vancouver in 1894 who worked as a foundryman until the recession of 1918. As a self-employed grocer and nurseyman he acquired some properties that generated modest wealth by the time he died at age 85 in 1944. Upon his death, he willed his money to a trust fund for educational purposes.
