Edeana Malcolm was born in 1951 in Victoria and raised in the Fernwood area, where her family lived for three generations. After obtaining an Honours BA in Literature at UVic, she moved to Quebec City to teach English as a Second Language. She also taught ESL in Edmonton before returning to Victoria in 2006.

Malcolm's House of Crows (Three Ocean Press $23.95) is about three generations of women who toil for a better life in Victoria. There's Edie (circa 1850s), who has journeyed across oceans searching for a place to call home; Lucy (circa 1850s) readies herself for the challenges of a new world only to suffer loss after loss; and Maggie (circa 1890s) who works in service to the rich, never losing hope that more awaits her.
