Born and raised in Prince George, Dr. Daniel Sims is a member of the Tsay Keh Dene First Nation. As the chair of the Department of First Nations Studies the University of Northern British Columbia, he is researching northern British Columbia and he has worked extensively with not only his own community, but also the related communities of Kwadacha and McLeod Lake. Kwadacha, also known as Fort Ware, is at the confluence of the Finlay, Kwadacha and Fox Rivers, upstream from the end of the Finlay Reach of Williston Lake. In 2022, he was working on two books through the University of Alberta Press on the impacts of the W.A.C. Bennett Dam on the Tsek’ehne and the Williston Lake reservoir. That latter examines concepts of wilderness and the numerous failed developments in the Finlay-Parsnip watershed of northern BC during the early 20th century. According to The Ormsby Review in 2021: "He is also working an English translation of Einar Odd Mortensen’s book, Pelshandleren: Mitt liv blant Nord-Canadas indianere 1925-28, with Dr. Ingrid Urberg, which is forthcoming from the University of Alberta Press."
