Through the Deadfall (Doubleday $19.95) by Barry Kennedy is the story of Jack Thorpe, a marine biologist, who has rejected corporate life in favour of running a hardware store in Salish Spit, Vancouver Island. Life is good, but uneventful until a mega project threatens to link the Spit to the mainland, forcing Thorpe to re engage in conflict.
A former F101 Voodoo fighter pilot turned stand up comedian, Kennedy, 43, is the son of actor writer Gordon Pinsent. He took his step father's name as a child. At 29, Kennedy met Pinsent for the first time since his parents were divorced when he was five. The two men have since become friends and have collaborated on a screenplay.
