Richard Mackie, who has for years served as the reviews editor for BC Studies, has opted to leave that venture in order to start a new vehicle for serious reviews of B.C. books, THE ORMSBY REVIEW, in conjunction with B.C. BOOKWORLD.

The Ormsby Review has already been launched as a distinct, designated portal within the BCBookLook news site: http://bcbooklook.com/

TOR reviews will also be included on the ABCBookWorld reference site for and about more than eleven thousand BC authors.

Reviews and articles from the The Ormsby Review will be archived (searchable) on both sites. Some will be considered for reprints in B.C. BookWorld.

These two aforementioned websites, started and managed by BC BookWorld, have eclipsed a combined viewership of more than 4,000 visitors per day-and the numbers continue to rise.

Increasingly there is a dearth of serious book reviews in Canada; we are going to counteract that trend with the help of forty distinguished reviewers who have already opted to contribute to The Ormsby Review. [List available]

Richard Mackie's editor/writer relationship will not change. The main difference will be that reviews, mostly by academics, will now have more readers.

Those familiar with B.C. history will realize The Ormsby Review has been named in honour of Margaret Ormsby, the old school UBC historian who wrote the first widely acknowledged history of British Columbia in the modern era.

We'll include headshots and a brief bio for each reviewer, but otherwise it will be business as usual for Richard Mackie. PLEASE NOTE: Richard will contact your publishing house, asking you to provide one review copy to one specific reviewer at a time. In each case the reviewer will have already made a commitment to Richard to provide a review.

"As much as I appreciated my time with BC Studies,"; he says, "I want to start a new vehicle for academic and serious book reviews about British Columbia that will be more in tune with the times and enable me to function independently. The beauty of working with B.C. BookWorld and its website is that we will be spreading intelligent and knowledgeable commentary about important B.C. books to as many people as possible, within minimal fuss and delay.";
