After earning a degree in Modern History at Oxford University, Colin Castle became a history teacher in 1961. He immigrated to Canada in 1969 and settled in West Kelowna where he taught history and social studies in secondary schools until his retirement in 1998.

He wrote two unpublished books before getting his first book, Lucky Alex (2001) published. His second published book, Rufus: The Life of the Canadian Journalist who Interviewed Hitler (Granville Island Publishing 2014) is about his wife Val's grandfather.
