James Giles has published: The Way of Awareness in Daoist Philosophy (Three Pines Press, 2020), Sexual Essays: Gender, Desire, and Nakedness (Hamilton Books, 2017), Sexual Attraction: The Psychology of Allure (Praeger, 2015), The Shell of When (Windways Press/Lulu.com, 2011), The Nature of Sexual Desire (University Press of America, 2008), No Self to be Found: The Search for Personal Identity (1997), and A Study in Phenomenalism (Aalborg University, 1994).

He has also edited the books Kierkegaard and Japanese Thought (Palgrave Macmillan, 2008), Kierkegaard and Freedom (Palgrave / St Martin’s Press, 2000), and French Existentialism: Consciousness, Ethics, and Relations with Others (Rodopi, 1999).

Born in Vancouver, James Giles has been a professor at several universities in Hawaii, Guam, Denmark, the UK and Australia. He is currently a part-time tutor at Madingley Hall, University of Cambridge. Giles received his B.A. (1980) and his M.A. (1983) from UBC, and his PhD (1989) from the University of Edinburgh.
