E.X. Giroux is the pseudonym for mystery writer Doris Shannon. Shannon wrote under her real name until the publication of A Death for Adonis in 1984. E.X. Giroux' series follows a barrister Robert Forsythe and his secretery Abigail Sanderson. In Death for a Dreamer (M&S, 1989) he entangles his secretary in a dispute over pet dogs--which turns into a cat fight, leaving a murder to be solved. In A Death for a Dodo (M&S, 1993), Forsyth is recuperating from a knee operation in the luxurious Damien Day Health Home. He becomes involved with a group of guests and patients whose collective past includes unsolved murders. A departure from the Forsythe series, The Dying Room (M&S, 1997) is about Karen Dancer's return to her Ontario home with her eight-year-old daughter. Drained by her husband's fatal illness, she tries to rest in her family home, only to be harrassed by an unknown tormentor.
