Originally from New York, Jessica Berger Gross moved to Vancouver with her husband and their infant son in May of 2008. She took a teaching job in the Creative Writing department at UBC.

Her first book, About What Was Lost: 20 Writers on Miscarriage, Healing, and Hope
(Plume 2007), was awarded a National Parenting Publication Award in the US. It was followed by enLIGHTened: How I Lost 40 Pounds with a Yoga Mat, Fresh Pineapples, and a Beagle Pointer (Skyhorse 2009), part memoir and part healthy living handbook chronicling how yoga philosophy helped her lose 40 pounds and overcome a lifelong struggle with depression.
