As political science professors at UBC, Kathryn Harrison and George Hoberg co-wrote Risk, Science, and Politics: Regulating Toxic Substances in Canada and the United States (McGill-Queens, 1994). They met while undertaking graduate work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Moving to B.C. in 1987, they were immediately struck by the differences in Canadian and U.S. risk regulation.

Hoberg co-authored, with David Haley and Martin K. Luckert, Policies for Sustainably Managing Canada's Forests: Tenure, Stumpage Fees, and Forest Practices (UBC Press, 2011), which is intended for forest managers, scholars and students.
