As Kateri O'Leary tries to get her rescue dog, Belle, ready for the Show Dog ring, life keeps getting in the way in Shirley Martin's Kateri O'Leary and the Show Dog Scene (Self-published $9.95), for 8 - 12 year-olds and illustrated by Helena Crevel. Kateri's family has money troubles, her absent-minded mom causes major mix-ups, and her pet mouse is sulking. She can't keep up with school work, has a fight with a friend, and a bully named Clive is a thorn in her side. On top of it all, Belle, a Red Setter is an escape artist. Martin's first children's title in this series was Kateri O'Leary and the Computer Mouse (Self-published, 2019) about a missing pet mouse.

She has also written a guide book featuring her photography, A is for Amphitrite: A Walk on Ucluelet's Wild Pacific Trail (Self-published, 2013) and a picture book for children, Through Grandma & Granddad's Binoculars (Self-published, 2017).

Shirley Martin lives in Ucluelet where she was raised. She earned a degree in English at the University of Victoria and worked as a librarian in Victoria before returning to Ucluelet.
